How do I scan a receipt?

Tap the scanner icon in the top right corner. Point your camera at the receipt and the document scanner will capture it. You can scan multiple pages — the app automatically detects if they're the same receipt, a separate transaction slip, or duplicates.

How does the app extract receipt data?

Simple Receipts uses on-device OCR (Apple's Vision framework) and regex-based rules to extract merchant names, dates, amounts, and tax breakdowns. On iOS 26+, Apple Intelligence provides a fallback for receipts that are hard to read. All processing happens on your device.

What tax types are supported?

How does the GST/HST summary work?

The CAD Summary shows your total GST/HST paid on expenses. This includes HST from Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, and PEI, plus the federal GST component from other provinces. PST is excluded as it is not claimable as a federal input tax credit. QST (Quebec) is shown separately.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Simple Receipts processes everything on your device — we have no servers and no access to your data. If you enable iCloud Drive backup, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account managed by Apple.

What if I scan two pages of the same receipt?

The app detects duplicate pages automatically and keeps the higher-quality scan. If you scan an itemized receipt plus a separate transaction slip, the app pairs them — taking the tax breakdown from the itemized receipt and the total (with tip) from the transaction slip.

How do expense accounts work?

Tap the account name at the top of the screen to switch between accounts or create new ones. Use accounts to separate personal and business expenses, or to track expenses by project or client.

The OCR didn't extract the data correctly. What can I do?

Tap on any receipt to edit all fields manually. For best results:

How do I export my data?

Tap the share icon in the toolbar or go to Settings > Export Data. You can export to CSV (for spreadsheets) or JSON. Filter by account and year, and optionally include receipt photos.

How do subscriptions work?

Simple Receipts offers a free 7-day trial. After the trial, choose between monthly ($1.99/month) or yearly ($9.99/year). Subscriptions are managed through the App Store. You can cancel anytime in Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.

How do I restore my subscription?

Go to Settings > Subscription > Restore Purchases. This will check your Apple ID for any existing subscriptions.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete individual receipts by tapping Delete in the receipt detail view. To remove all data, delete the app from your device. If you have iCloud Drive backup enabled, you can also delete the backup files from the Files app.
